"One is Silver" & "The Other Gold"
âOne is Silverâ (top image)
18âH x 62âW yr.: 2011 N/A
acrylic on canvas & burlap, sealed yarn, collage, metal foil
âThe Other Goldâ (bottom image)
18âH x 60Wâ yr.: 2011 N/A
acrylic on canvas & burlap, sealed yarn, collage, metal foil
After making many reverse glass fish paintings, I decided to create more fish using my other favorite media, the cut out canvas and sewing method. These were inspired by a simple song with the words, âMake new friends, but keep the old, One is silver, and the other goldâ.
For the larger fish of âOne is Silverâ, I cut fish shapes out of leftover gold leaf and flower pattern collage. I sewed them onto a simplified aqua acrylic on burlap water pattern. âThe Other Goldâ has larger fish of black and silver. In each one I placed a smaller fish of the opposite painting. Water in âThe Other Goldâ is represented as spiral sound waves.
